The Amazon Rainforest is also known as the ‘lungs of the Earth’, and besides being an important biome, it also houses many indigenous peoples.
The tribes like Yanomami, Kayapo, and the other isolated tribes of Javari Valley have been living in the forest for thousands of years. They have intimate and extensive knowledge about plants, animals, and other related aspects of the rainforests and have, for generations, possessed these occupations.
These are ethnopharmacological applications of plants, proper wildlife management and harvesting of wild resources, and one of the most efficient forms of farming—shifting agriculture, which does not destroy the forest and lets it grow after a certain period.

They impact negatively on the livelihood of indigenous people living around the forest, as well as destroying the natural habitats of various species.The consciousness in the past few years regarding the Amazon and the people residing there has also increased.
Various countries and NGOs around the globe are struggling to make the indigenous people own the land and also to support sustainable developments. Thus, while adopting the Amazonian tribes’ practices, the whole world will benefit from knowing how to live sustainably and value our planet’s biodiversity.
The battle to fight deforestation is not about trees alone, but a fight to preserve people’s livelihoods and conserve their knowledge that might save the world from a diminished future.
