“The Fox and the Firefly” is a captivating tale that explores the unlikely friendship between a clever fox and a radiant firefly.
The Encounter
Once, one hot summer night, a fox whose curiosity had gotten the better of her decided to go for a stroll in the woods. Before proceeding with the main story, one must know that, when the sun is about to set, the forest turns into something completely different—a fairy-tale setting.
The fox, having flexed away from the water by the beauty of it, caught a speck of light moving through the woods. Thinking that this is weird, the fox decided to follow this light, which seemed to be coming from nowhere.
The Pursuit
The fox followed the flickering light, moving in and out of thickets and jumping over prostrate trunks. Light was a firefly that was now shining brightly in the gradually getting darker forest.
looked as if the firefly was flying in the air in a round dance, with the fox following her into the deeper part of the woods. Being curious and hungry, the fox began to chase the firefly, hopping, skipping and jumping, its eyes glued to the twinkling brightness.
The Conversation
Finally, the firefly stopped and floated and the fox was able to approach closer to it. ‘Haha, why do you run away from me, oh dear fox?’ asked the firefly in the sweetest tone possible.
Stammering and out of breath from the chase, the fox said, “I wanted to understand your light; it is so pretty and enigmatic. ” The firefly smiled and said, “My light is given freely for the world to see it and to be happy with it. ”
The Lesson
The fox remained absolutely still and patiently watched as the firefly flowed back and started fluttering in the air again. At last, the fox nodded. ‘I can see that—yes, I understand now.”Beauty doesn’t always have to be captured”.
‘It is enough to admire it’. The firefly then nodded and its light became radiant. The fox, thus satisfied with this newly acquired knowledge, left the firefly and went back to its burrow with a lesson learned that it would cherish in its heart.
