Torrential rain that is said to be the heaviest in the country’s history has caused large areas of Austria to be flooded. The country is currently dealing with the aftermath of the disastrous floods.
Floods have occurred due to heavy inundation, leading to floods of rivers covering the towns and villages, with some landslides recorded in the hilly areas.
The rainy season has finally arrived, and the recent rains have been tremendously heavy and non-stop; this has led to blocking of the drainage systems and hence disruption of normal activities.
Emergency services are still working to get people out of the flooded areas, repair the rooted barriers, and supply the most severely damaged areas with food and supplies.
The Austrian government has put into operation a state of emergency in several regions of Austria, where military and civil protection are participating in the efforts to fight the virus.
