Qinghai Lake, which is found in the Qinghai province, is China’s largest saltwater lake, found on the northeastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau.
The lake is located more than 3,200 meters above sea level, and it is bordered with mountains topped with snow, grass, and desert—an impressive contrast of terrains. It is a serene place that is located at a high altitude, and therefore it is quite a distance from those regions of China that are densely populated.
The lake is considered a holy temple among the Tibetan and Mongolian tribes; the shores of the lake are populated with monasteries and rather small villages. Not only the natural scenery and fresh air resources in the Qinghai Lake scenic area, but also the visitors will have opportunities to taste the flavor of the ethnic culture.
The indigenous people of this region are the Tibetan nomads who have for centuries been living as shepherds tending to Yak and sheep and following the Tibetan буддism. From the monasteries it is possible to get an idea about the religious practices of these people, many of whom even today remain faithful to their ancestors’ traditions.
It is also a breeding ground of migratory birds and some of these birds are the black necked crane and the bar headed goose. The amazing show of bird migration attracts bird lovers from different part of the world especially during holiday seasons of spring and summoner. Bird Island Nature Reserve along the western shore of the lake is ideal for the observation of the two species.
It can also be explored by car / motorcycle or by walking since there are several that provide wonderful views of the lake and the mountains in the background. While Qinghai has great appeal in the eyes of scenic international travelers, the lake still remains unfamiliar by international travelers, hence making it the best place for a serene and virgin vacation.
